Why do magazine subscriptions take months to begin????!

Question: why can't they just put a label on the magazine and send it ASAP? I've been waiting 3 months for Consumer Reports!

Because monthly magazines typically go to press a few weeks before they come out, and then there's the possibility that you subscribed right after an issue was sent to press. So if you subscribe in June, right after the June issue has come out, you probably won't get on the subscriber list for the July issue, as it may have already been sent to press, thus your first issue will be August's.

Some magazines will send you the current issue immediately when you sign up, so you get one right away, but you then might miss the next one.

Weeklies and bi-weeklies will probably still often take a couple issues to get going. While they come out more often, their lead time isn't necessarily much shorter except in the case of weekly news magazines.

some of them do..
but mine also takes monts!
it should come in about a week or so!
i hope!

i know tell me about it!!!!!!!!!!
i have been waiting 2 months for my stupid Tiger Beat magazine, might as well just go to the store and get it for all i know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You really shouldn't have to wait more than one month for your magazine subscription to begin.
As a publisher we only print the number of magazines we have orders for, either subscriptions or through the news trade. We don't have spare copies hanging around in the hope that someone will subscribe. It just doesn't make good business sense to print more than we need. That said, we do make immediate contact with new subscribers to inform them exactly when the will receive their first edition.
Another reason for delays might be that your subscription is sold through a third-party company and not directly with the publisher, but if you have to wait more than one month I would certainly make contact with the publisher and find out why. It's not a good way to treat a new customer to have them wait.

After 500 years of having invented the press, still publishers haven't learned that there are always going to be new subscribers.
