What's your opinion on Sportswriters?!

It really depends. Most are dedicated to their job, but those that contribute to yellow journalism are just sick. I like to think of it as a black hole job. It's tough, the pay isn't all that good (unless you work for ESPN or SI or some other top name company), but the exertion and effort involved that takes you the distance is very rewarding.
I hate sportswriters (or any reporter for that matter) who turn things like steroids or the Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy into a political statement (and DON'T tell me it's about the children -- the media couldn't care less)!
Part of a writer's job is to tell the truth, but more often the position is abused in order to gain fame and fortune for the media, at the expense of accuracy. The ones that engage in responsible journalism have my respect, but there only a few.
If this is a career you wish to pursue, the road to ethical behavior is the road less traveled. It will put you in the class of elite journalists -- but it is filled with landmines rigged by people trying to make a buck off someone's misfortune, so be careful where you step.
