There aren't any set steps to get into the magazine business, but there are definitely ways to get noticed.

If you are in high school, write for your school paper or get on the yearbook staff. Sign up to be a stringer for a magazine (CosmoGirl does this every year, there may be a couple other magazines that do the same) -- if you are selected, you get to help out some of the editors w/their features and articles.

If you are in college, write for your school paper or magazine. Apply for internships by searching ed2010 and mediabistro (they specialize in journalism). If you don't live in New York or LA, plan on moving there for a summer so you can get the experience of an internship. If you can't do that, search for local magazines you can work at.

Also, start your own blog with things you would like to see in magazines. It would also be wise to keep an idea book. These will help you later on in the future for articles or if asked for examples (when going to an interview).

There are more helpful tips at ed2010 and mediabistro. Ed2010 actually has a helpful list of possible salaries for editors. Please also click the article I provided from Atoosa. That should help you out too.

Another note: if you plan to major in journalism, know that it is not required to get into magazines. What matters is what experience you have, who you know, and if you've got great ideas. You can actually major in anything you want even if it does not have to do with journalism -- so long as you have the drive and talent to get noticed.

If you have noticed, I have not mentioned Teen Vogue yet. This is because you should get your experience anywhere possible so you can work your way up to Teen Vogue. If you get a chance to be interviewed by them for an internship be sure you know everything about the magazines (who are the editors, writers, photographers, what the section names are, which is the Young Hollywood issue, etc) BUT be sure not come off as a know-it-all. You want to prove that the internship will help you achieve your goals. You want to show them that you want to learn more and that Teen Vogue is where you will benefit the most from.

To learn more about Teen Vogue and how to contact them for internships (you'll want to go through Human Resources or through whatever Teen Vogue has set up for intern applications) visit their website and their publisher's website (links provided below). You can also try any applying for their contests, recently they had an internship contest for both HS and college kids.

Be sure to try and attend their events like FashionU -- they are helpful and you'll meet great people who could possibly help you someday. Oh, and fun freebies too!

Good luck :)

wow, my dream job is working for a magazine too!
I'm sorry I don't know the exact steps :(
but i believe that you should just really get excellent marks in english, and in Uni perhaps study journalism, and also find out on their website or something about jobs. Also if you live near where they make the mag, maybe you could go up to their office and inquire about it. i'm not sure a whole lot.
good luck though!
how old are you?
