Scientific American. They typically publish peer reviewed, independent articles... they're much more of a "popular" version of a hardcore science journal (Nature, etc). Popular Science is a fine magazine, but they're a notch down in intellectual terms, and probably a notch up in terms of mass accessibility. But that's the way it ought to be -- science is what science is, and there's no guarantee you or I will understand it all, even when the scientists in questions simplify it as much as possible.
Scientific American is much better in my opinion.
