Answers: I am writing a paper, and I am needing some ideas of how to change the way we set the standards of beauty in magazines.

Consumers have power. Don't buy magazines whose articles or advertisements are exclusionary, and write the editors to tell them why. Support magazines whose visions support yours. Write to the corporations whose advertisements have beauty standards that are exclusionary, and tell them why you will not buy their products. Support products that do support your vision.

Magazines reflect other forms of media. Do the same thing for them, whether they are web-based, on TV, in the movies, etc. Speak up whenever anyone expresses a view support beauty standards that are exclusionary. Ask peers why they hold the beauty standards they do. Question the cosmetic surgery industry, why women who are no longer dewey and young are invisible in the media, why people of colour in general are invisible, why anyone who isn't a size zero is invisible, why beautiful people who are in a wheelchair are invisible, etc.

Question why beauty if defined by a narrow definition of external perception.
