Honestly, to do it right, you need Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat. I'm a graphic deisgner and artist, and those are my basic tools for magazine and book covers, Adobe Illustrator for logo designs too, such as the magazine title. You have to have professional programs for professional output and a reliable printer.
