Not all of the time. One of the greatest perks of being rich and famous is all the free stuff you get -as if they need it!
A huge designer will often make a dress for someone like Halle to wear to the academy awards, no charge. They will loan the dresses out and give them away also, because they know when Joan Rivers or her daughter say 'omGawd, I love that dress, who are you wearing?' and they say 'Vera Wang.' That pro-bono dress just paid for itself, a thousand times over. Same with shoes, and jewelry.
Famous stars get so much free stuff wrote off as a 'promotional loss' that its ridiculous!
