Writing a bestseller?
can somebody who knows a little bit about this topic tell me how it all happens. does it depend on the agent, the publishing house or...(except for the quality of writing of course or how interesting something is for the public)
also, what are the best publishing houses in the states that also accept work from abroad (from non-american citizens)

Don't know about publishing houses in the states, but what really makes a bestseller is Media Exposure. If your stuff catches the media's attention or your agent lands you promotion work on TV/Radio then the chances of your work being on the bestseller list skyrocket.
Like here in the UK, the best promotion a writer could get is to have their book as part of Richard & Judy's Book Club. There's easily over a million people participating in that every year, plus there's constant TV attention then too.
