Also, how should I gain input from teens at their schools? I know surveys will be used. How should I approach staff (teachers, principals) / board of education for the okay?

You mean "START-UP". You would need an idea first, to make yours stand out. Haven't you ever noticed all the teen magazines already being printed? I feel you would be better off coming up with an idea for the Internet.
