Is it a sin to steal magazines from the hair salon?!

Question:

Is it a sin to steal magazines from the hair salon?

Answers:

Anytime something is taken or borrowed without asking it's stealing. Stealing is a sin. If someone is interested in a salon's magazine, one could ask someone working there if it is all right to borrow it for a time. I've asked in similar situations, and sometimes I've been told I can have it.

Under the Bible's Hebrew Law Code, a person who took something made restitution by paying back more than what was taken. ( Often, three to seven times more.) Christians aren't under this particular Law, but the Law Code shows us God's view of the matter. So, if something has been taken without asking, it's good to return it. (If a person would like to make up for past actions, maybe they have magazines they could donate to the salon, if the salon would want them. They should be sure to remove the name and address label first.)

A sin isn't a permanent blot on one's record. Once a person realizes the wrong and stops doing it, it's "erased". The meaning of the word rendered "sin" is simply to "miss the mark " or "fail to hit the bullseye" of perfection. We all sin many times, very often unknowingly. The scriptures show us that God generally overlooks errors committed in ignorance but he also equipped us with a conscience. He has no patience with a person who knowingly continues in a course of sin. Hope this explanation helps. (If you'd like scriptural citations for anything I've said, I'd be happy to provide them.)
