Tips for running a small 'zine'?!

Question:

Tips for running a small 'zine'?

I'm interested in journalim, the true kind, not the celeb gossip of today. I think if i started a zine, it would help. it would be more like a newsletter, one or two pages, printed from my home computer, and all content would be what the readers want to hear about.
i would have an alias, and if i have enough readers, i could get an email address to contact the paper.

The main thing is the 'billboard' section, where the top songs, top bands & top albums of the country are disscused. The music would be mostly a pop/indie/punk/emo/techno mix, and determined by billboard charts on the website.
Something big happens, like some new law in the country, or a celeb killing, then a small column would be posted too. Letters from readers, and suggestions of what could come next would also be included. Every now and then, an unknown band/singer would have a article about how they got started, what music they play, whatnot, and their website.

Tell me whatever you think i should know. THANKS!

Answers:

First: Lay it all out on paper. If you have PC skills and the software, lay it out on the PC first. Look at the design. See how much stuff actually goes into each section. Most probably you are going to find that some sections are awfully long and others are woefully short. A zine (paper or e-zine) is no fun if there are only 2 or 3 major sections. Determine your audience and then create several different sections, with a good amount of content in each section. What constitutes a good amount depends on your readers, not on you. So, survey your readers (or potential readers).

Basically, here is the GOLDEN RULE OF ZINE DESIGN: It's like a pretty girl wearing a tight sweater. Good content draped in better design.
