What happens to magazines (decorating ones in particular) when they are out of d!

Question:

What happens to magazines (decorating ones in particular) when they are out of date & removed from the shelf?

Is there a place where you can get them for free or cheap?

Answers:

Depending on the retailer - they are either put out on the street in bundles with their covers ripped off to wait for the recycle pick up (here in NYC) or are sent back to the wholesaler/distributor where they are put into huge bales as recycled paper.

The covers are sent back so the retailer gets credit for them (they essentially sell on consignment).

The retailer cannot sell a magazine after they have claimed credit.

The magazines NEVER go back to the publisher. They are always destroyed.

No you cannot get them for free or cheap. Sometimes street people sell magazines that they collect when they are undeliverable and sometimes people sell them at flea markets (usually really old issues though).
