Letters to the editor?!

Question:

Letters to the editor?

Can someone pls tell me what are the reasons people write letters to the editor and how would you start one? (eg. Dear editor or somfin?)

Answers:

Usually one writes a letter to the editor in regards to a news article, or an opinoion piece that was in the newspaper, or magazine if the magazine runs a letters page.

You probably would be either agreeing/disagreeing with what had been written and stating your reason why. You would start your letter off Dear Editor,or To the Editor.

It is best to keep your letter short and to the point, not long winded and not too dramatic or flamitory. Generally it is best to end your letter with your name and address, even phone # as they might call to verify it is really you who wrote the letter. They will only list your name and town of residence if they publish your letter.

If you read the letters section of a newspaper on a regular basis you often start to notice there are people who get letters published say every week or two. Guess that is because they are persistent, and not enought other people write.

The Chicago Tribune states that it might not publish your letter in the paper but in their on-line edition. They run letters every day, with Saturday's paper having almost 2 pages worth of letters.
