What's "Tiger Beat" mean?!
Question:
What's "Tiger Beat" mean?
I know it's the name of a magazine, but why did they name it that?
Answers:
Tiger Beat has been around since at least the late sixties/early seventies and the name has got that loopy pseudo-edgy vibe (not that we would have used words like edgy or vibe - or pseudo, for that matter) of the era.
Tiger was a corny sixties term used to address corny-looking supposedly-hip guys in shaving cream commercials. Hey, tiger, blah blah blah. I think this is supposed to jibe with the young gentlemen displayed on the cover - modern David Cassidys and their friends.
And Beat, as in the beat of the music, and more distantly the Beat generation of the fifties - though with apologies (on my part) to Jack Kerouac and his pals, who really have nothing to do with a Beat that is, um, Tiger.
So, celebrity cute guys plus pop music basically.
