Question: A simple math riddle i cant figure out!?
just seen this online and its got me alil confused!. help anyone!?
3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL!. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS £30 SO
EACH MAN PAID £10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM!.
A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY £25
SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH £5!.
ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT £5 EVENLY
BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A £1 AND KEPT THE OTHER £2 FOR
HIMSELF!.
THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID £9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL
OF £27, ADD THE £2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = £29!.
WHERE IS THE OTHER POUND!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

The solution lies in the way the question is asked!. The question is quite nasty in that it forces you to assume that the extra $2 must be added to the net amount paid by the 3 men which was $27!. That adds to $29!. omg $1 is missing! like, omg!
But WHY should the $2 get added to the $27!? There is no mathematical reason for doing so!
The men paid $27 instead of $25 which is $2 too much!. The question then is not "Where is the missing dollar!?", but "Where is the missing $2!?" The bellhop has it!. Nothing else is "missing"!.
The amount the bellhop keeps should never be added, only subtracted (from the total amount paid), because the bellhop has the difference between what the hotel has ($25) and what the 3 men eventually paid ($27)!.
To elaborate, once the $3 is given back to the men it is established that they paid $27 for the room!. Forget about $30, it is gone, that is part of another equation!. By giving the $3 back we have killed the $30 and made it $27!. So now the only numbers we have are $27 and $2!. How do we get this to $25!? Subtract the $2!. Now they paid $27 for a $25 room leaving $2, which the bellhop keeps!.
The whole problem lies in the question which virtually forces you to assume that adding the $2 to the $27 is acceptable, while there is actually no reason to do so!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Why would you add the 2 pounds to the 27 the men paid!? The men paid 30 and are due back 5, if each only gets back 1, they are collectively still owed 2!. You have to subtract the 2 from the men's 27, and realize there's still 5 downstairs!. The 2 pounds the bellboy gets are from what the men paid!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
oh oh i saw this on rollar coaster n the reason is you did the math completely wrong lol its actually devideing then plus plus!.!.!. i cant remember the things! srry! but i do remember that it said it was coz the way it was worked out was improper!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
Well, since the hotel room actually costs 25 poounds, and the bellboy gives back 3 pounds, the men actually payed 28 pounds, plus the 2, and you get 30!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
it is illogical to add the $2 (that the bellboy kept) to $27!. because it is already inclusive in it!.
instead, add $3 change to $27, then you'll get back the $30!
