Why is an orange called an orange, but a lemon is not called a yellow!?!?!?

BEST ANSWER=10 points!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Because when they were naming the fruits, one man was tasting it and another was observing!. The observer watched as the taster took a bite and then he asked, "What shall we call it!?" As the taster took his bite and began to answer, his face squinched tight and shook as he muttered "yellow!." The observer heard, "Lemon," and wrote it down in history!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because the man who first discovered the orange had respect for nature, and decided upon a name that praised the colors nature could produce!.

The man who first discovered the lemon, on the other hand, could have cared less about what it actually was in the first place!. He just wanted it to be written into history as his own discovery, and so he named it after himself!.

This is the real reason why nature made the orange sweet, and then lemon a sour thing we must sweeten ourselves!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

1)Orange is both a noun and an adjective in the English language!.

In both cases, it refers primarily to the orange fruit and the colour orange, but has many other derivative meanings!.

Before the English-speaking world was exposed to the fruit, the colour was referred to as geoluhread in Old English, which translates roughly into Modern English as yellow-red!.

2)Orange derives from Sanskrit nāraigai "orange tree", with borrowings through Persian nārang, Arabic nāranj, Spanish naranja, Late Latin arangia, Italian arancia or arancio, and Old French orenge, in chronological order!. The first appearance in English dates from the 14th century!. The name of the colour is largely derived from the fruit, first appearing in this sense in the 16th century!.

3 ) Etymology of orange word ==

The colour is named after the orange fruit, introduced to Europe via the Indo-European word nāranja!.

Before this was introduced to the English-speaking world, the colour was referred to (in Old English) as geoluhread, which translates into Modern English as yellow-red!.

The first recorded use of orange as a colour name in English was in 1512,in the court of King Henry VIII!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

the greeks have a word called "lemos" which means goddess of glow!. When the Greeks would eat, they would put a hint of this ancient fruit (not found today) that had a sour taste!. It had a lighter yellow skin that had a very sweet smell to it!. When the juice was squirted into a dish, it made the food "glow!." Actually, the dish just had a glisten to it!. But then around the late 1670s, it's believed that some Germans traveled to Greece and found this fruit that the Greeks called "lemos!." The Germans have a word called "Lemonade" except it's pronounced "LEE - Moe - NA - da" It refers to a sour juice!. Hence, both words were forced together!. And you get yellow lemon :)Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because whoever found the lemon and decided to name it did one of the following
- named it after someone in the family (weird)
- named it after the place where the lemon was found
- "lemon"was how a different word sounded after someone sucked a lemon for the first time which made them pucker their lips
- meant something such as yellow or sour in some forgotten language
- saw the lemon and the name was instantly was upon him (or her)

However someone was a complete idiot during the course of the oranges history and one of 2 things happened
- the person named the orange first, never before coming in contact with the color orange and when the color was found it was named after the fruit (unlikely, look at a sunrise)
- the person who named oranges was very uncreative

PS- if we named every fruit their color it would be very confusing!. therefore only one fruit can be named a color!. it's like the first person who couldn't think of a name for a boat and named it "no name" was clever!. everyone else who named their boat no name was idiotic!.
besides yellow is a stupid name for a sour fruit!. it sounds much to sweet and creamy!. think about it!.

PPS-sorry for any spelling errors- thought hellow was spelled hellow until 8th grade

PPPS- i just finished my Tinkerbell costume for halloween!. their are no Tinkerbell costumes left in MD or on the internet for less than $30!. Tah Tah

Ok here is what I'm thinking !.!.!.!. Maybe when people were naming them the color orange was named after the fruit orange!. So when they saw a lemon!.!.!. the color "yellow" wasn't named yet!. Not many fruits are the color orange so the "orange" immediately identifies with it's unique color in the world of fruit!.!.!.many fruits are yellow or red or green and wouldn't be made clear by just using it's "color" nameWww@Enter-QA@Com

because there is a conspiracy against oranges, the people that got to name all the fruit hated it, and didn't give the orange a real nameWww@Enter-QA@Com

because the cherry was invented by Mr!. Cherry!. The apple was invented by Mr!. Apple!. The lemon was invented by Mr!. Lemon, and the orange was invented by Mr!. Orange!Www@Enter-QA@Com

the color is named after the fruit rather than vice versa
