This one was a royal pain!. I only found it through brute force!. Your answer is going to be another number!. What you've got to do is add up all the possible numbers you see in the paragraph!. For example: "A dozen hen's eggs and then four more" would be: 12+4 and so on!.
Hint 1: Notice how there are a couple words in italics!?
Hint 2: When you have your answer, the last line can be changed to: "adding each time and it was [insert number here]!." (NOTE: The line will still rhyme!.)
