If you add all of the natural numbers up to infinity you'll simply get infinity!. But there is a formula found by the mathematician named Carl Friedrich Gauss that gives the summation up to the nth natural number:
1 + 2 + 3 + !.!.!. + n = S(n) = [n(n + 1)]/2
To show you that it works, I'll add the digits up to 10:
Therefore, set n = 10:
S(10) = [10(10 + 1)]/2 = 10(11)/2 = 110/2 = 55
