Question: A simple question
If you meet a friend that you haven't seen in a long time and he has a little kid with him!. He says that he has two kids in total and the kid with him is a girl!. What is the probability that both of his kids are girls!?Www@Enter-QA@Com
Answers:
is it about 25% as the kid that is with him may or may not be his!? Actually, i have heard statistically if someone has a child of a certain gender then it is more likely to have another of the same gender so it gets a bit more complicated!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
1/2 the fact that he already has a girl doesn't influence whether he has another one!. The other child can either be a girl or a boy, so 1/2 chance that it's another girl!
MORE:
riddler i don't understand where you got a 25%!. you probably did 1/2*1/2=1/4 But you are certain the first child is a girl!. Hence the probability she is a girl is 1!. The probability the next child is a girl 1/2 and is independant of the first child, hece: 1/2*1=1/2!.
I think you are confusing two situations:
*what's the probability that it is two girls, when you don't know the gender of the first child!. Hence P=1/2*1/2=1/4
*Given that the first child is a girl what's the probability that the second child is a girl- this situation is different because the probability the first is a girl is certain!.The fact there is one girl doesn't influence whether the second is a girl!. There are only two outcomes for the second child: a boy or a girl!. hence 1/2Www@Enter-QA@Com

i don't think the other one is a girl!.!.!.!. because he would have said "i have 2 girls" instead of sayin "i have two kids!.!.!." just my thoughts!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
20 to 1 girl because it's easy to get a girl
