if they would have stayed on nobody would have gotten killed because the rock would fall after the bus passed that area that it fell at to crush the bus!? basically it was the wait or delay

Because if they had not stopped the bus, the bus would have passed safely!. The time-delay resulted in the bus getting under the rock!.
