3 guys go to a motel to stay the night!. The cost is $30!. So they split the cost 3 ways so it comes out to $10 per person!. The hotel manager forgot that since they checked in early they got $5 off the total cost!. The manager gave the busboy the $5 to give to the 3 men!. The busboy figured that you can't split $5 evenly 3 ways so he pocketed 2 of the 5 dollars!. He gave the 3 men the remaining $3!. This meant that the men only paid $9 each!. But look at this!.!.!.
$9 per person X 3 people = $27
plus the $2 that the employee pocketed
that equals $29

Don't add up what the men THINK they paid - the puzzle tricks you by adding up things that shouldn't be added!. Nobody actually paid $9 each, that was the lie!.
The cost went from $30 to $25, so the men actually paid a total of $25!. Each paid $8!.33!. The $25 they paid, plus the three they got back, plus the two the bellboy kept!. There's no missing dollar!.
