Magic trick help: need to know solution!?!

Question: I saw a magic trick a while ago and want to know how to do it.
Okay, so here's how it went:
1: 1 person leaves the room (the picker)
2: Out of 5 symbols displayed in no special order, someone else picks 1 random symbol.
3: the picker then enters the room and is able to pick the symbol.
4: after a few are pointed to and then the correct one, the picker can guess it.

I really don't understand. can I please get some help? it's driving me nuts! if you can, thanks so much; if you can't, thanks anyway I really appreciate it!!

thanks all!!!!!!

It has to do with the placement of the point. (this is hard to explain) The way I learned the trick was this (and you can picture it better) lay out 9 playing cards 3 x 3. Now picture each individual card in a 3 x 3 grid. So if you were the person who randomly picked, for example the lower middle card, when the person was showing his assistant, he would point to "wrong" cards, but he would point to them in the lower middle quadrant of each card, so his "assistant" would know that the lower middle card was your card, and when he pointed to that one, he "magically" guesses it.

Even if you weren't talking about playing cards, the principal is probably similar. Pay attention to HOW each item was pointed to.

Another version I saw was a prearranged color. The magician pointed to the wrong object, but right color of the item in question, then proceeded to point to other objects of every other color but that first one, and the assistant knows that whenever he points to the same color item as that first one, it is the right one.

are the shuffled after being picked?

umm its oviously fake man..

the picked one is pointed to after he points to a specific symbol.

I'm guessing there is one designated sign that the person shows the picker directly before he shows the real symbol. That's how it is in black magic anyway.
