The real reason is that each manufacturer has its own interests. They aren't the same entity. Hot dog manufacturers prefer to have packages weigh exactly a pound. It's easier to measure, sell, store, etc. Thus there are packages with 6 or even 4 larger, but the weight should add up to a pound, regardless. It happens to be that the most manageable size of hot dogs are an eighth of a pound, or 2 ounces.

The bakers have a different issue: pans. They use trays in various formations. The reason that a dozen is such a traditional baker's number is that it can be set up in configurations of 3X4 or 4X3 (or 2X6, or 6X2, but that's not common). When it comes to pans and ovens, maximum efficiency is key. Ten buns means it must be 2 rows of 5, which simply doesn't always work. The 3X4 rectangle is more convenient.

i know that anoys me sooo much

haha I thought I was the only person who wondered this? I have no IDEA?

In case you drop a hotdog....lol
But if you get the bun-length, they're in packs of 8 also.

Someones been watching Bulletproof Monk

so you will buy more of their products

ya that pisses me off but there are a couple of stores ive seen store brand actually sell buns in a pack of 10 for that reason. but i agree its pretty stupid. they just want u to buy more

the world will never know

2 SPARE DOGS INCASE U BURN THEM

So you'll have to buy more buns. It's a conspiracy.

hmm, good thought ;)

It's the great hot dog bun conspiracy.

Maybe there was a survey taken that showed that 8 out of every 10 people eat hot dog buns. I really don't know, but it is really annoying!

Well I like to much a hot dog without a bun sometimes. This must be why, I can't be alone on this

very good question

I've always known it is an evil goverment conspiracy!

Because the cook usually scarfs two while cooking?

hahaha.. Good Question! I'v enever thought about that. Star for you!

cuz they are probably produced and packed by two different companies who have set their machines and production line in such a way.

Also, buns are not made JUST for hotdogs and vice versa...

Because the people with kids always have a 3 or 4 year old that would like the extra....besides turning those extra couple buns into mini subs is no problem at all...turkey club sub Mmm!

so you can put 1 and 1/4 in each roll

but then again it could be 2 spare just incase you drop 2 because they are hot,

Wakko, Yakko and Dot posed this very question to Wally Llama in an episode of Animaniacs about 10 years ago!

I still have no idea.

because i like to eat the extra 2 hotdogs plain and cold non cooked :)

That is one of the most annoying things. The other day I bought the jumbo hotdogs (pack of 4) and then the hotdog rolls (pack of 6). What is the sense in that?

I think they do that so you spend more than you have to, or end up buying more than you have to.

Either way, grrrrrrh!

xx

It's a marketing ploy so that you will buy the 12 pack of hotdog buns. (only guessing)
Good Question, star!

because the hotdog bun people want to make more money. so you have to buy 2 packs of buns if you buy 1 pack of hotdogs. lol.

Yeah... what Angel said.

So you'll have to buy 8 packs of hotdogs and 10 packs of buns to be even.

So you can see whether you can inhale a hotdog whole!

Or... you race a mate to inhale a hotdog whole....

cos you always eat a couple straight from the pack

So they make you buy 4 packs of hotdogs and 5 packs of buns to even it out.
