Question: Ok, heres the deal. My daughter is in LOVE with "Mermiads" and she entered a contest at her school, to be in a mermiad contest. Of course, she got in, and now has to make a homemade, Mermiad tail, out of spandex. My three questions; 1. How much does sparkly, cool Spandex cost?
2. What could i make the actual bottom fin out of?
3. Do you have any iditonail ideas? (like the top "bra" part? or what colors would be cool? Etc.) ?

Hi Val! Why not make a swimsuit and attach shells where the boobs should cover. make it all blue like artic colored. Cut cardboard into the shape of a tail and cover it w/ the fabric. MAKE SURE to have a ton of candy sea shells or related for her to hand out to everyone in a mermaid purse or bag, a big sign to say "Dolphin Safe" or "Dolphin Friendly" for laughs from the judges... do something different, too. Add a fishnet to show that someone caught her...
Don't go with the red wig. EVERYONE will do that. Try for originality.

You could copy the little mermaid scheme but I think that most of the girls would look like that.

the situation you're in is pretty hilarious.
for spandex fabric, i think you should check wal-mart.
i just stopped by wal-mart today & there's all kinds of fabrics at a low cost. like $1-$3 per yard.
for question #2, you could make the bottom fin made out of vinyl with lots & lots of sequins.
for question #3, your daughter can just wear a swimsuit bikini that's not too exposing depending on the age, totally up to you. aeropostale & target will be great for a bikini top or possibly, old navy.
If it's not a joke, then why is it in the Jokes & Riddles section?

2.Uhh...spandex??? duh, haven't you already answered that yourself?
3. Try teal/light blue. It's blends with ocean. And I don't think she should be wearing a "bra" at that age. Unless you paint her skin teal also.

This would be so much fun if I was there go over to AC moore or JOAnn fabric and you will be in heaven,and also check out the internet for images of mermaid costumes to give you an idea and you and your baby together can add on your own style to what you see and like,trust me you will come up with something good,your a good mom if you came on here to ask for help you can do it,I hope she wins let us know.
