Can You Solve This Really Hard Riddle?!


Question: Hey!

I have a riddle for everyone, and I hope it's not too hard, and that you haven't heard it already! Anyway, here it is!

Riddle me this:

Rachel and David are twins; Rachel is the OLDER twin. Assume they were born immediately after each other, an infinitesimally small - but nonzero - amount of time apart. During a year in the course of their lives, Rachel celebrates her birthday two days AFTER David does. How is this possible?

Bonus: What is the maximum amount of time by which Rachel and David can be apart in their birthday celebrations during the same year?


Note: For both Rachel and David, these birthday celebrations happen on the actual birthday date -- it cannot be a celebration that occurs at a date earlier or later than the actual birthday date for whatever reasons of convenience. Also, the solution has nothing to do with the theory of relativity or any other over complicated nonsense like that.

ANYWAY, you don't have to get the bonus. It would just be really awesome if you did. So, I'll tell you what everyone. The first person to get the riddle right, even if they get the bonus wrong, will get 10 points! Hope you all have fun!!! :P

Rachel was born in the last second of 11:59 pm, February 28 on a not leap-year, and David was born in the first second of 12:00 am, March 1. The next leap year, February 29 would separate their birthdays by exactly 24 hours (so there's the bonus).

I've been thinking really really hard. It could have to do with daylight's savings time... or a leap year. But I don't know. I'm really curious.

Maybe they also live in different countries? Time zones?

They live on different sides of the world.

this is the correct answer except for one thing the bonus is wrong the bonus should be 24hours and 1 second

I was gonna say that they were born either side of idnight on a leap year, but seems other people have allready said that.



I have heard of Twins who were born not only a day apart ( Born either side of midnight ) but were also born under different star signs ( not that I believe that rubbish)

were they born on different days? like one was born at 1 minute to midnight and the other was born at 12 oclock

EDIT I think it has something to do with a leap year aswell!

michelles bday is in the hour you sprung ahead in daylight savings time! that puts the bdays off track
