Question: three men go into a bar and they all have a pub lunch, after the bill came in, it was £30 so they decided to pay £10 each so they paid the bill and decided to get a drink at the bar so the waiter went back and realised the bill was only meant to be £25 and realised you cant split the extra £5 between the 3 men so kept £2 for himself (secretly) and gave each man £1 back each....... so really each man only paid £9 each....... £9 times 3 is £27 + the £2 in the waiters pocket = £29 where is the missing pound

omg.. where is it? dying to know lol. tell me!!!!!

I posted something very similar to this about three men buying a car at the cost of £30. I don't know the answer but I hope you have some better answers than I did.

You take away the 2 pounds the watier did not give back not add it then you get 25 the ammount paid for the meal.

The meal cost £25. Plus the £2 in waiter's pocket and the £1 in each of the three men's pockets, adds up to £30.

Tax? Like Bar tax or a Tip? Or he dropped it?

Re-reading it - THERE IS NO MISSING POUND, THE 9 POUND PER MEAL IS A DISTRACTION.

The odd pound paid the bill?

i have heard this one before but cant remember the conclusion, i have also been told the chancellor and government use the same tactic , only using millions of tax payers money,

I've read this 4 times and still can't figure it out. Am i just thick? Can anyone else work this out?
I need to know the answer, its gonna bug me forever!

gavmel25 is quite right

what gavmel said makes sense, but so does what you say. im completley confused

The men didn't pay $9 each because the bill was only $25, and $9 x 3 = $27, not $25. You can't divide $25 evenly between 3 men, without subtracting the two dollars that the waiter kept, meaning that three WAS no extra dollar, instead, they were $2 short, making it either $23 OR $27, which divided by the 3 men plus the $2 is still not 10, even that they were mistakenly cheated out of $2 AND $3. And all because of that sneaky, lying, thieving waiter.

Make sense? I didn't think so.

No where:

30/3 = 10 euros each

since it was only meant to be 25euros, and the waiter took 2euros FROM the 5euros left, he gave 1euro to each of the 3 men. 2(euros from the waiter)+3(men)x1(euro)=

2+3= 5 euros.

30 (euros in total) - 5(euros in change) = 25 euros

25 euros which is the total price of the pub lunch.

there is no missing pound the probloem is just worded oddly. They were meant to pay 25 not 30 however even getting the 3 back (1 to each guy) they were overpaying by 2. so the waiter takes the 2 and they are all paid off. these guys are idiots if they dont realize that 2 pounds are missing from them.

there isn't any missing money because they haven't payed £30 they have paid £27. £25 for the meal and £2 for the waiter. so they have paid £9 each in total. 3x9 = £27 and they have £1 each in their pocket 1x3= 3. 27 + 3 = £30.

first Bill = 30 GBP (Great Britain Pound)
Money returned = 3 GBP
Amoun Paid by 3 men = 30 - 3 = 27 GBP
Acual Bill was = 25 GBP
Extra amoun paid = 27 - 25 = 2 GBP, which was kept by waiter.
so there is no missing pound.
