Question: Just wondering. I don't think I've really ever laughed out loud more then twice ever in a chat. however, I've typed all of the above on multiple occasions.

They are just expressions that acknowledge to the other person that something was funny. I use each one as a separate rating, from plain lol, meaning it's funny, to rotflmfao, which means hilarious.
This is despite the fact that lol in real terms is a little smile, and rotflmfao is usually one of those tiny laughs, that's basically just exhaling harder than usual.
However, if the amusement had occurred in real life. lol probably would actually be lol, and... well I don't remember a time when I rotflmfao in reality, so it would be that. More like llc (laughing like crazy).

yeah mee too i hardly ever laugh out loud but sometimes i do. And i used lol all the time. Its really stupid lol. I never use roflmao or rofl or lmao... lmfao... i only use lol. because i hardly ever find things so funny that i laugh my *** off...

Good questions. Whenever people type that to me I always comment how I know they really aren't Laughing out loud.
