Wait a minute, if it was at her moms funeral there is a good chance she was related to this guy in someway, or he new someone from the family so maybe, the sister was dating the man

I think she killed her sister thinking that if the man knew her mom well enough to come to the funeral, he might show up at her sister's funeral and she could see him again.
EDIT: I don't think I have the mind of a serial killer. I'm pretty sure I've heard this one before - but you never know! LOL
