Answers: A man has a daughter and a son. The son is 3 years older than the daughter is now. in one year, the man will be 6 times as old as the daughter is now and in 10 years, he will be 14 years older than the combined ages of his children. what is his present age?

the father is 41, daughter is 7, son is 10.
SOLUTION: Let man= x daughter= y son= z NOW
son is 3 yrs older..: z = y+3
in one year,man is 6times as old..: x+1=6y
in 10 yrs he will be 14yrs older..: x+10=14+[ (y+10) + (z+10) ]
x+10=34+ y+ z
x=24+y+z
SO we have 3 equations: z=y+3-----------------eq 1
6y=x+1----------------eq 2
x= 24 +y+z-------------eq 3
NOW eliminating y from 1&2:
Eq 1* 6: 6z=6y+18
rearranging: 6y=6z-18-------------Eq 4
Eq 2 : 6y=x+1
Eq 4-Eq2: 0= 6z-x-19
: x=6z-19---------------Eq 5

NOW eliminating y from 2&3:
Eq 3 : x =24+ y+z
Eq 3* 6: 6x =144+6y+6z
rearranging: 6y=6x-6z-144---------------Eq 6
Eq 2 : 6y=x+1
Eq 6-Eq 2: 0= 5x-6z-145
rearranging: 5x=6z+145-------------------Eq 7

NOW we have 2 equations without y:
x=6z-19 (Eq 5)
5x=6z+145 (Eq 7)
Eq 7-Eq 5: 4x= 164
: x=41 --------------that's the father's age :)

NOW put x into Eq 2: 41+1=6y
y= 7 !!! -------------------daughter's age :)
Now put y into Eq 1: z=7+3
sooooooooooooooo: z=10 -------------------------son's age.

dayum very confusing
i read it a million times
still dont know haha.

Oops clicked on the wrong question. I will try to solve anyway.

BTW:
You said:
"yea i dont get it either...the numbers i got were...the son is 5...the daughter is 2...and the father is 11....but i dont think a dad can be 11"
-----------------------------
It can't be true because if that was true, in one year the daughter would be 3 while the man would be 12, which is not 6 times as much.

hummm what?

the daugter is 7 the son is 3 yrs older making him 10,
in one year the dad will be 6x the daughter making him 41.
in 10 yrs the dad is 51
the son is 20 the daughter 17 = 37
51-37=14

Soser...the guy'scomment right on top of my comment is totally off .

Closest I got is..
Son is 8.2 yrs old
Daughter is 5.2 yrs old
Man is 37.2 yrs old

How i got it ?

in one year the daughter will be 6.2 * 6 = 37.2

In 10 years add the sons age and the daughters age = 33.4
The fathers age will be 47.2 .

47.2 - 33.4 = 13.8 yrs

Its a crazy question so i guess you get a crazy answer.
If i am totally off then forgive me for trying to help.
