If one of them always tells the truth then you can try asking him if he is lying

cause the lets say the first guard lies... so you know he's lying and the other guard does not so if he says he tells the truth then its the truth...
You run past them to push through the door and get to fight higher level monsters that raise your characters ability several levels earlier in the game.
