I've given people their cell phones back when they forgot it somewhere or one time this girl dropped a wad of money, I picked it up and handed it to her.

I am not going to lie like the people (other than me), who are trying to portray an angel. Truthfully, I would probably take a few $$$ but I would try and find the person who dropped it.
a wallet check it for id or a phone number something that could link it to the owner try to get it back to them...if all there was was a bank card turn it in to that bank, hopefully they could look up an account and find the person, if no info is in it well turn it in at the police station if they even take lost wallets don't know never had to do that

Why lie when you can do the right thing and feel good about yourself and possibly still get to end up with what you found or at least a reward? In many localities if you drop off your findings to a police station and the item is not claimed within 30 days you legally get to keep it and even if it is claimed the grateful owner will often offer you a reward. Usually doing the right thing pays off much more than lying!

No. I would try to find the rightful owner. Because I was taught "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" If someone had found your wallet, wouldn't you like that person to be honest and return it to you?
I WOULD SAY I WOULDN'T PICK IT UP-- that would be a lie- but i don't know if i would keep whats in it if their was a ID in the wallet to feel better drop it in a mail box or police station--
i know if i did i wouldn't feel right keeping it
