both, you have 2 sides of the lace to tie. since you only said 'shoe' I assume you're only tying one.
I keep my shoes tied all the time and just put my feet in them so I don't have to worry about tying shoes.
I tie my shoes once an jus slide em off wen i take em off so next time i don goda tie em again
I used to be a pilot, but after an unfortunate crash landing, I lost both my feet - sad eh?
But the results say that when I get my pair of wooden legs, I'll tie my shoes starting with a prayer, then the wrong, then the right.

Neither left nor right. I sart with the laces.
Sorry I wear slip on loafers or shoes, no tying necessary.
