Another games theory puzzle for you?!

Question: Ok, here's the game. There are three guys, and they know that there are four headbands (Mark Knopfler-style, but that's not important) in a box, two red and two green. One at a time, each guy is given a headband at random, without seeing its colour, and sent into a room to sit down. The first guy gets a green headband, and he's put sitting facing the wall - he can't see anybody. The second guy comes in with a red headband, and he sits behind the first guy. He can see the green headband in front of him, but not the colour of his own, obviously. The third guy gets green again. He sits at the back of the room, he can see both of the other guys.
Now, the point of the game is for one of the guys to work out what colour headband he has on, and shout it out. They are not allowed communicate with one another when they are in the room. They are given ten minutes to figure it out.
After eight minutes, one of the guys correctly shouts out his headband colour. Who shouted, and how did he know?

The second guy ....red...BECAUSE...The third guy didn't shout out and since second guy could see a green headband in front of him, and knew if he had green the third guy would have yelled out...so....Second guy yells "red"

the third guy

the guy wearing red. because there are only 2 of each. he saw both of the green ones, and knew there are only red left. so he must have red.

The second guy, if the other two have green ones he has to have the red one.

the 2nd one turns round and can see the person at the back an figures out both green so his must be red

the dude thaat came in second shouted out... he knew that there are 2 green, tw0 red.
since the others had green on he must have had on red!

!!!!! WOW viralintruder !!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks kieranhr !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for catching that. do i email someone to report him? or do you need to be a certain level to do that? Well thanks anyways umm i hope you post the right answer!

the first guy. mirror on the wall!

Seems to me there is no restriction on guessing... so you could just shout out the available colours till you got it right...

Nah, can't be right - that's WAY too easy!

So, in the way MY mind works...
'Guy one' guesses at random.
'Guy two' knows 'Guy one' has green so law of averages says he should guess RED...

Question IS...

Why did it take 8 minutes?

Remeber, the first guy can't see the other two. The second guy can only see the first guy, and the third guy can see guys 1 and 2.

Now, if guy #3 saw two red or two green headbands, he would immediately know his own headband must be the opposite color. Guy #2 is waiting for guy #3 to shout something. When guy #3 is silent, guy #2 figures, "Hmm ... guy #3 must be seeing two different color headbands. That means my headband must be the opposite color of guy #1."

Guy #2 looks at guy #1 in front of him, sees the green headband, and figures his own headband must be red.

Guy #2 shouts "RED"!

Guys #1 and #3 shout "F---!"

The first guy answered correctly. He just guessed because there is a 50/50 chance of getting it right!

The 2nd guy.

The 2nd guy reasons like this. He knows that the guy in front of him is wearing green. He also knows that if he was also wearing green then the guy behind him would immediately know that he (the 3rd guy) was wearing red and would have certainly have shouted out after 8 minutes. As the 3rd guy has not shouted out then 2nd guy knows he must be wearing red.

Oh bother - somebody beat me to it while I was typing in my answer. :(

the one in red
