Missing dollar?!

Question: tim and his two friends, jeff and bill go to an all you can eat

buffet which is $10 a person so in total $30.after they eat, they

leave and the manager remembers it cost $25 dollars for 3

people. he asks the waiter to quickly return the 5 one doller

bills.the waitor thinks how are three people going to split $5

evenly.the waiter keeps $2 and gives each of the people $1.

that means each person would pay $9 since they each got $1

back. so $9 + $9 + $9 equals $27 plus the $2 the waitor has

equals $29. wheres the missing dollar

equals $29. wheres the missing dollar

30-5=25

the three men together paid $25, and the waiter got $2 and they each got $1 back so 25+2+1+1+1=30

so technically 2 guys paid 8 and one paid 9 and they all got one dollar back and the waiter got 2 so 8+8+9+1+1+1+2=30

i think you are supposed to subtract the $2

It's in the Waitor's pocket. You would subtract the 2, not add.

:c)

boss kept it

The missing dollar is because the question has us confused of the calculations done....

The correct calculation is this...

You don't take the $30....because it is just a statement to confuse you....
They pay $27....$25 goes to the bill....and the remaining $2 goes to the waiter...Total is still $27....no missing dollar =)

it would be lost because 25 doesnt go to 3. The special deal for 3 people wudnt be right on the dot with 25, so one of the guys doesnt pay 9 dollors. one of the guys got a lower price.

ummm apparently the manager kept it

9 + 9 + 9 = 27 = 25 for the manager + 2 for the waiter.

tax.

25 divided by 3 is 8.3333333333 (so on.)
So each of the guys is technically paying $8.33.
8.33 X 3 + 5 = 29.99.

So the real question is, where is the missing penny?

they did not all pay 9 dollers I have no Idea where you got that from what happen is it cost 30 dollers they each pay 10. so the boss has 30 he gives 5 to water to give back so each guy then spent 25/3 dollers or one spent 8 and anther spent 8 and the last spent 9 then he gave 3 back and kept 2 so the nubers are 8+8+9+3+2=30

You do fuzzy math
if the bill is 25dollars and he returns 3 that is $28.00
than he could steal the other 2 dollars and be done with it
I wouldn't give him a tip the thieving SOB

you said $25 for 3 people,

$5 note with the waiter, gave them back $3 thats $1 each $25+$3 = $28

$28 divide by 3 = $9.33333 per person x 3=28 + 2 = $30 no missing dollar?

The waiter has it because it says" the waiter keeps $2 and gives each of the people $1"

It all depends on how it is said
25 + 3 + 2 = 30 this is so old
