If that's the answer, then how is it a riddle? It's more of a math problem really. Report It

I agree. I saw this in another post on here by someone else, and I absolutely racked my brain for like half an hour trying to figure out the 'catch'. When I saw that it was just a math problem after all, I was pretty disappointed. : P Report It

    1582? gosh thats tricky!

    210 legs in total

    10990

Yup, I go with 10,990 legs too.

    7 kids x 7 rucksacks = 49 rucksacks.
Each rucksack has 7 families of 8 cats = 56 cats per rucksack. (How big are these rucksacks?)
    49 sacks x 56 cats per sack x 4 legs each = 10,976 legs.
    Plus 7 kids x 2 legs each, = 10,990.

    7 little cats=28
each big cat has 7 little cats (28 legs) 7*28=196
each backpack has 7 big cats (196 legs) 7*196=1372
each girl has 7 backpacks (1372 legs) 7*1372=9604
    backpacks and contents 9604+1372=10976
    each girl 14

    Total 10990 legs

You asked how many legs are in the bus, not in the rucksacks. I'm going to say there are 14 legs in the bus.

It's not going far with no driver though, is it? ;)

C'mon man! We're all dying out here! We want to know the answer!

    10990

    i got 826

    Made me think though

    10,990

This may just be my skeptic side but here goes: none. They're supposed to be ON the bus not in it and if there is no driver why would there be any children in it? Also why are there cats in the kids rucksacks instead of books or camp gear? Hmmm...

    238 legs in the bus..

if theres a technicality of leg on or in then i say 14..but i calculate 2415 legs in total

    The mathematical breakdown:
    7 children x 2 legs per child = 14 legs
    7 big cats x 4 legs per cat = 28 legs
7 small cats per each big cat = 49 small cats
    49 small cats x 4 legs per cat= 196 legs
Now, add this up: 14 children's legs + 28 big cat legs + 196 small cat legs = 238 legs inside of the bus sans the driver!

(Rucksacks don't have legs and the driver doesn't count)

Otherwise I agree with another poster, there are none as they should be ON the bus not IN it. Word play is indeed part of riddles.

14 legs are in the bus
you said in the bus not in the rucksacks and the bus

Whether in or on the bus is irrelevant as the riddle states that everything is entirely IN the bus. Also since everything is UNIQUE and there is NO DRIVER, the answer is 14 legs in the bus. Why?

    7 kids, 2 legs/kid = 14 legs.
    7 big cats, 4 legs/cat = 28 legs.
    7 little cats/big cat = 49 small cats
    49 small cats, 4 legs/cat = 196 legs.

All of the cats are in rucksacks which are also in the bus. That's 224 cat legs inside the rucksacks that are inside the bus. Rucksacks do not have legs. None of these figure into the equation. Therefore, there are only 7 kids with rucksacks containing 56 cats; 224 cat legs; and each kid has 2 legs. 14 legs only are in the bus.
