What, if any, is the difference between giggling & laughing??

i'm not a native English speaker, but i think the difference is that when you laugh you do it openly, aloud, and when giggling, it is more shyly, like trying not to be caught in laughing. i don't know if you speak spanish, but if so, the translation for laugh would be "risa", and for "giggling" would be "risita".
