there are 3 light switches downstairs , and only one of the switches turn on and off the light in a room upstairs, from where the switches are you cant see wether the light is on or offok so , you can only go up and down the stairs once to check to see which switch turns the light on and off , how would you figure out which switch it is that turns it on and off?

Turn the 1st switch on for 10 minutes, turn it off. Turn the second switch on, enter the room. If the bulb is off, but really hot, it's switch #1, if it's on, it's number 2, and if it's off and cold, it's #3.

Oh, if you don't know if the light is on or off to begin with, you can turn the second bulb on for 2 minutes. That way you can feel the bulb even if it's on, and if it's warm (not as hot as it would be if you had it on for ten minutes) then it's switch #2. If it's still a little cold, then it was switch #3.
