What symbol can you give for this poem? and why?
To look at anything
To look at anything
If you know that thing
you must look at it long
to look at this green and say
"I have seen springs in these Woods"
will not do-you must
be the thing you see!
you must be the dark snakes of
stems & ferny plumes of leaves
you must enter in
to the small silences between
the leaves,
you must take your time
and touch the very peace
they issue from.
Answers:
My Symbolic interpretation of the poem is that it is telling the reader that it isn't enough to just look at anything.
To really appreciate what you are seeing you must see beyond the surface of anything you look at. You must explore it inside as well as out.
It is the only way you can really get to know it, understand it and care about it.
