Answers:
Chinese astrology is actually extremely complicated, even more than western astrology from what I've found out so far!.

There are two different systems that I know of, 4 Pillar and Bao Zi (I think)!. I don't know much about Bao Zi, so let me try to explain 4 Pillar!.

It is divided into eight branches; 4 heavenly branches and 4 earthly branches!. 4 heavenly breaches are based on the hour, day, month, and year that you are born in!. It has an element (fire, wood, metal, earth, water)!. 4 earthly branches include the animals (rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, !.!.!. etc!. to pig) which also come with an assigned "element"!. If you were born in 1985 (Chinese calendar), then you were born in the year of the wood ox!.

also, each element from the branches come with either a yang/yin element attached, and upon calculation, you're able to find out if your birth chart is yang-heavy (masculine in the Chinese sense) or yin-heavy (feminine) or neutral (balanced)!.

However, the year sign you're born under (which most westerners think apply to them universally) does not represent you!. The day branch actually represents you!. So, even if you're born in the snake year, it doesn't mean that you will exhibit "snake" tendencies as many popular chinese astrology sites explain!.

For example, I was born in a fire ox day, so I'm a fire ox, although I was born in a wood ox year!. Furthermore, all of the branch elements in my chart is yin, so i'm a strong Yin Fire Ox!.

There are many other things that are attached to this, but it makes the explanation even more complicated, so I'll just ignore them!.

They then have a system to calculate which are your "big luck" year (comes every 10 years starting from a certain age; which does not necessarily start from age 1), "small luck" year, and "unlucky" years!.

Then whatever year you are also will receive effect from what year it is!. Right now, 2008 is an earth rat (yang water) year, and so many Chinese astrologists relate the unstable stock market to the instability that comes with having water under earth!. Last year was a fire pig year, and fire is related with money gains (apparently), so there was an economic growth or so they interpret!.

So!.!.!. yeah Chinese Astrology is EXTREMELY COMPLICATED (what I explained here doesn't even explain the tip of the ice-burg), plus the fact that most of it is still in Chinese, not translated into English, so most of us who do not understand Chinese cannot even learn it!. The only reason I know this much is because Chinese astrology is used predominantly in Korea where I'm from, and they have some of it translated into Korean!.

Good luck finding out what you really are!. It's extremely hard using English sources, simply due to the lack of them!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yes chinese astrology is by years, not months, so what matters is the year you're born! There are 12 signs, and 5 elements (fire, earth, metal, air, water) in them, so for example a earth snake is born every 62 years!. And remember chinese year is also from january or february, not 1!.1!Www@Enter-QA@Com
