Agreed with the person two answers above me, it's transiting Pluto and Jupiter working as a team!. I can't really see this being Pluto alone, as transiting Pluto is currently still in USA's 1st house and hasn't even made it to the 2nd yet, even before it went retrograde!. However, transiting Jupiter is currently at 12 deg!. of Capricorn in USA's 2nd house, opposed Cancer sun in the 8th (other people's resources), and conjunct the midpoint of transiting Pluto in the 1st and natal retrograde Pluto in the 2nd!. Jupiter is also square natal Saturn in Libra in 10th!. The transit of Mars conj!. natal Saturn and square natal Sun and transiting Jupiter couldn't have helped, either!. You know what's really interesting here, though!? The natal and transiting Chiron and Eris influences, and also natal and transiting nodes!. Transiting Chiron and N Node are currently in Aquarius also in the natal 2nd house, sextile natal Chiron in Aries in 4th, but even more interestingly the midpoint between transiting Chiron/N Node and natal Pluto is pretty much exactly conj!. natal S Node, and therefore the merging of the energies of natal Pluto and transiting Chiron and N Node is in direct opposition with the direction in which the country should ideally be heading!. What appears to be the right course of action to heal the country (transiting Chiron in 2nd sextile natal Chiron in 4th!.!.!.real estate/mortgages!?) economically is actually doing more for the government and less for the people ultimately!. The thing about Chiron transits which I'm discovering at the moment is that before the wound is healed, it's re-opened!. Now, transiting Neptune retro really isn't in the mix at the moment, being in the natal 3rd, but it is currently loosely conj!. transiting Chiron and N Node, indicating to me anyhow that this problem has been going on for some time, and that the nation has just been deluded and deceived (during Neptune direct) into believing that the economy was strong!. Likely, Neptune retrograde is clarifying this!. I'm not sure where Neptune will be when it stations and goes direct again, but I'm curious to see what will happen if it happens to squeak back into the second before it does!. Likely, the full extent of what's going on and how bad it really is may not be disclosed until then, if only briefly and then it's either connect more to spiritual values or right back to the illusion!. As far as the Eris connection goes, transiting Eris (discord) is currently conj!. natal Chiron in Aries in the 4th, sextile transiting Chiron and N Node (which IMO are actually doing more to harm than to heal at the moment), sextile natal Mars in Gemini and opposed transiting Mars and Mercury!. So the discord sown by transiting Eris seems to be assisting in re opening these old wounds on the homefront before they can be healed!. Interesting too now that I look at it is the trine from transiting Chiron/N node and sextile from transiting Eris to natal Mars!. But - Pluto (in Cap) aspected Venus (money/values/property) approx 1/26/08!.
There are a few other things I would look at too in regards to World Finances -
Pluto is definitely one to look at, also Jupiter and Venus - see if they are all three aspecting during this time!.

Yes!. Pluto is about black or white; left or right; death or transformation!. Capricorn is about being response-able and pro-active for nature's basic resources: the roof, the water, the air, the food!. We are now feeling emotional and intense about these issues: they sure need transforming!
The mortgage system needs to transform!. Mort-gage literally means death-gage in French!. If this system doesn't transform and re-form in a kinder way that is more condusive to the soul/energy/work-capacity/reality: it will die!.

No, because it's many times before, under names other than "world banking crisis", and it will happen again!. Debt financing is driven by greed, the urge to participate in amassing what seems to be easy, without regard to whether it's unethical profits!.
The grouping of persons into a mindset to do this could be from this generational planet as it transits, but in my opinion, it is not a reflection of Pluto in Capricorn!. Many of the problems were already in the groundwork foundation as Pluto transited Scorpio and Sagittarius!. Interesting question!.!.!. I will give this some more thought and look back at Pluto as it transited through other signs!.
Edit: Ok then, you are saying that transiting Pluto in Capricorn is scrutinizing the "Bonfire of the Vanities" during transiting Pluto in Libra/Scorpio/Sagittarius!?
