Question: How do you deal with "difficult people"!? Pls read!.!?
How do you deal with unreasonable, unhindged, or possibly unmedicated people in situations where you can't get rid of them or get them immediately dismissed and you are basically forced to work with them!?
For example, an office environment where your boss is a jerk!. Or if you're a boss, one of your subordinates are whiny and difficult!. Or if your parent has dementia and is mean, but you can't turn them over to a care giver!. Or your a teenager who's dealing with a parent who's overly strick!.
Do you stand up and fight!? Confront!? Attempt to deal diplomatically!? Take the high road and forgive!? Allow them to have their way until you can get out of the situation!?

I'm 43 and a systems programmer for mainframes!. I have changed my approach through the years!. I'm a fairly strong personality!. I used to hit them head on, kick a**, and take no names!. (at 18, told my company commander to f* off!.!.!.probably not the best approach ;) But I learned a few things!. Life is too short!. Everyone has bad days!. Choosing your battles is very important!. Looking for the win-win is the best way!.
So, I like people alot!. While I will absolutely stand up when necessary and can be forceful, I look more for the win-win now!. And realize that everyone has bad days (so I try to give people a break, say if they cut me off in traffic)!. It also helps me , it's a lot healthier to just think, wow ,they must be having a crappy day instead of that *(&()^*@$ !!
When all is said and done, if someone is truly being ugly/evil/jerky, I will either completely disengage or confront!. But I won't let them suck me in!.I won't take their crap though, no matter who they are!. I'm much more likely to confront if it's on behalf of another person!. I've stood up to guys who literally twice my size in concerts when something wrong is going on!.
I guess when I don't confront, it's more because I don't have to than that I have issues doing so , lol!. also, I've learned that even 'positive confrontation' (I actually like confrontation/debate) will just completely shut many people down!. And there isn't a win-win with that!. So why do it!?

well honestly, being the libra that i am, i would put up with it, as we can be pushovers most of the time!. I don't think i would confront them, until it really really really annoyed me!.

i would forgive and try to move on with it!. but if he or she really got on my last nerve, and i couldn't take it, i would say something to them for sure if it hurts or not!. if that doesn't work, then while i'm with them i would be whiney and strict so they can have a taste of their own medicine!.

The nature of a difficult person is irrational, always ready to initiate a fight, arrogance, full of ****!. I've had a difficult manager, and he was actually spreading animosity about me!. When I found out from a fellow employee I confronted him directly in front of his desk!. Then he turns red and request that him and I meet with the owner of the company!. I said lets go!. I explain to the owner of the company of the situating, then I received the apology that I deserved!. This world needs justice so we could practice fairness and equality of all mankind!.

The is no "correct" way with dealing with difficult people!. To fight never works out in the long run!. Especially dealing with people at work!. Confront, well you could!. I sometimes do that depending on the situation!. However, in your case I would attempt to to deal with it diplomatically then if that doesn't work!.!.!.!.!. Just leave it alone! Don't let them know it bothers you!. Then they will stop doing it!. Make them feel irresponsible when they do things irresponsible!. They will quickly learn or stop hanging around you or just leave you alone!.

When dealing with people who are not very close to me, A co-worker for example, I tell them directly how it is and whats going on!. I try not to come off abrasive or bossy!. I just lay down the line!.
I have been in quite a few situations where I have been in a managerial position and I had to deal with insubordinate workers!. In those cases, I get them out and away from me ASAP!.
In my everyday life I cannot deal with disrespectful people!. They anger me!. And I don't like to get angry, Its not pretty!. I try to avoid conflict as much as possible!. I don't sweat the small stuff; However, if there is an issue which needs to be addressed!. I will be very confrontational!.!.!. I pick my battles!. Some things are worth fighting for and some are not!.
When it comes to my close friends and family, I let most things go to a certain extent!. I may seem like a pushover and you might think that you can walk all over me, but watch out!. I have a venomous bite!.
I had a cousin who used to be mybest friend!. I loved her to death and I did anything and everything for her!. She was my best friend!. She screwed me over so many times!. I forgave her!. After all, She is blood!.
One day I just could not take it anymore! She screwed me over for the last time!. The fury just came blazing out!. I did everything I could to hurt her!. If she didnt live 2 hours away I would have physically done it!. Till this day I have so much hate for her, If there is anything I can do to hurt her, I will!. Revenge is sweet!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Hmmm!.!.!.!.difficult to answer as I have different methods for different situations - lol!.!.!. I happen to care for my disabled mother who is also going through 'the change' - lol!.!.!.very difficult at times (we live together) to try to smooth things out to make everyone comfortable and/or happy! Sometimes when things are really heated and stressful I can't help but take a stand and say what I feel and what I think to just end the situation completely! No tact when I do this either so it isn't really pretty sometimes - lol! But it gets taken care of quickly!.!.!.their might be some uncomfortable silence for a little while but we get over it and move on! lol! But I have pets and a child - when my mother is overly stressed out or in pain, she isn't the nicest person to be around - for any of us! I try to deal with things for the general good of the household (not just the two of us!)!
At work!.!.!.difficult to answer as well! LOL! I have left more than one job due to crappy bosses! I will usually try to make an effort to communicate with them and try to deal with things accordingly but if they don't make an effort then why bother! It will never change if others are not willing to assess potential problems and deal with them appropriately - to me this tells me that this particular boss is weak and cannot efficiently do their job and I do not need to work for them if they cannot do their job!
In regards to coworkers!.!.!.lol!.!.still not very tactful!.!.!.lol!.!.!.I will only put up with so much! If I do enjoy my job and someone is being disrespectful to me (for no apparent reason) I will stand up and defend myself as I deem appropriate (lol!.!.!.though others may not agree)!.!.!.I can be nice or I can be an a@@ (lol) it just depends on the other person and the circumstances involved!
For the most part I try to be diplomatic - do unto others as you would have them do unto you - seems completely reasonable to me! If people cross that line with me - I do what I can to nip it in the bud! There's no sense in putting up with BS! I will take only so much!
I also find (for me) that I have to be completely upfront with others - I do not do well with sugar coating ugly situations and just won't even try! lol! I say and call it like it is! End of discussion!.!.!.don't even bother trying to lie about it (when it concerns me) because I usually do very well in collecting data and evidence that will only prove and catch you in a lie!
If I can't prove my own theory then I will wait it out and hopefully the person(s) involved will eventually slip and show their true colors eventually but I still let it be known that I do not appreciate what is going on and please,do not involve me!
