IT is not just in south india it is used in astrology all over india by well read astrologers!.
IT is more in south india because when the muslims invaded india they used to massacre people in north india as they came through here!.
Aurangzeb used the ancient indian texts as fuel to heat water for himself!. This lead to most astrologers fleeing north and going towards south with their texts!.
IT is not only gulik but dhoom, praanpad, vyatipat, upketu, chap, parivesh,dhwaj that are used in calculations!.
Now these are not planets but positions in the imaginary arc around the earth!.
The placement of planets and the resulting addition and multiplication of arc measurements lead to the sensitive points in this imaginary circle!.
These points are calculated by adding arc degrees to the arc measurement of sun!. These give the sensitive points in the circle!.
