It work's on the position of the Moon, Venus, Mercury, Mars and so on!.

If you mean the birth astrological chart, it is the map of the sky in the exact moment of your birth!. It represent the energies that are present at that moment!. Each planet, star, astrological sign has an influence on us!.
I think it works because in the Universe everything is connected and we don't see how it is connected!. However if we could see, we realized everything is just One Life!.

Your natal chart is based on the exact minute, date, and location of your birth!. A professional astrologer would take your birth information and calculate the position of the sun (your "sun" sign --- Sun sign astrology is the stuff found in the newspaper!.), the moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, at the precise moment of your birth!. He or she will also tell you what your ascendant (the sign or constellation that was on the horizon at the time of your birth), the descendant, the midheaven and the nadir are!. In astrology, the earth is at the center, not the sun, so in that sense, it is not very scientific!. But in my opinion, it's still very cool!. Anyway, all that information is compiled and an interpretation paper is written!. The interpretation should tell you all about yourself --- what you look like, what sort of person you are, what you like, what you don't like, what you want in life!. In my opinion, astrology is not good at predicting the future!. But it's right on target when it comes to personality!. I know a guy who can look at the natal chart --- without the interpretation --- of a person he has never met, and describe what the person looks like! But most astrologers can't do that!.
