In the North Pole!.!.!.!.
Some say that we can get sick with no Sun for that long!. People work there and are in perfect health, so it seems!. Would the Moon have a stronger influence on our mind and body, the way we feel etc!.!.!.during the 6 months of darkness !?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Take the opposite : do people get sick with no Moon for 6 months !? I don't know!.!.!.!.!.probably not!.!.!.have not read any studies about it though!. Have not heard of the equivalent of SAD for lack of night :-)

I think people eventually get used to all kind of habitats!.
Human nature afterall is pretty adaptive to all kinds of environments!.
Well!.!.the people living over there sure lack vitamin D via the sun rays but get it through their food intake (fish)!.
People have lived and are living in all kinds of environments and just got used to it!. The body adapted, their diet changed, maybe their metabolism also adapted in some climates to less fruits and veg!.
I think we underestimate the resilience of human beings!.
You have to look at the Scandinavian countries also!.!.!.!.!.living in the dark or near dark for so long!.
There could be so many factors!.
Maybe stress, demanding ways of life, over consumerism, which is so prominent nowadays actually make people sick instead of lunar factors!.
I had read that the Inuits could get all the minerals, vitamins via the fish (and the plancton they absorb)!.
Over the milleniums bodies had to adapt to their environment to survive!.
I think this question is asking for a lot of angles to look at!.!.!.!.

Did prehistoric man die during the Ice Age !? nope!.!.

Maybe nowadays, our lifestyle, the garbage we eat, some say we receive too much "electric" stuff from computers, electronic gadgets, cell phones etc is affecting our cells, our brains!. Too much crap in our bodies can make us feel sick too!. ( I read a while back that Asian women hardly suffered from menopause because their balance was a lot more balanced than in the West and a carrot nowadays is not like a carrot like 50 years ago : lack of nutrients, selenium, depleted earth, meat full of hormones!.!.!.!.!.transfats)!.!.

Food for thought so to speak :-)Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well, you've kind of stumped me, Leftie!.

I still say that the Sun is our primary source of sustaining life on the planet, and therefore is a more dominant infuence than the moon, regardless of where you live!. Even in your 6 months of darkness, your food has to come from somewhere that it's reasonably sunny and temperate in climate!. Without the sun, food won't grow!.

That being said, I'll say that since you've got 6 months of darkness, there is a possibility that during those 6 months the transiting moon will have more of an effect on you than the transiting sun does!. But I don't know!. As I said, you've stumped me!. Damn you:-)

also, I may never complain about the snow here again!.

If I may ask, though, just out of curiousity, do you know what the percentage of people with SAD is up there!? I know that the national percentage is somewhere between 2-4%!.!.!.wondering if it's higher!?

EDIT: I suppose also to be considered is my perspective!. My chart ruler is the sun!. I can't imagine life without it!.

EDIT: SAD=Seasonal Affective Disorder!.

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Seasonal_af!.!.!.

And yeah, I'll concede your point!. Once again I guess it just all comes down to your perspective!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

In fact, that is not entirely true! They have dark nights and sunny days in spring and autumn - it's just in the winter and the summer that resp!. are completely dark and completely sunny!. Roughly about 2!.5 months' worth!.!.!.

Anyway, humanity gets used to extreme circumstances easily; we're a species of survivers that can adapt to anything!.!.!. we're like viruses, really!.

The people who live north to the north polar circle have grown used to the situation there, they simply know no better!. If someone would put you, me, or anyone else used to "normal" conditions in there, we *would* go sick!.

Although, EU statistics show that the worst alcoholics live in poor countries or countries north to the polar cirlce!. So maybe the situation there does get to you eventually!.

The funny thing is, those alcoholics emerge usually during the *summer* when it's bright all the time, and not winter!. It would make you think of not the sun, but the moon is more important for our wellbeing!?

Even for us here, with normal weather conditions!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I get sick if there's too much summer heat, too much sun!. If there's not enough moderate weather about 66 degrees is comfortable to me!. Some doctors think it's my thyroid pills other doctors believe it's because of low cholesterol!. Some doctors say I'd be better off in a place like Alaska! So in short my season affected disorder is during the hot weather!.!. afew oscillating fans help me with that! I've won a few trips to florida and turned them down of course! I'm a writer!.!. and writers digest has contests!Www@Enter-QA@Com
