Alot here so I'll try to cover as much as I can. Sorry if this gets reeeeally long.

The vertex doesnt' have much of an emphasis on a persons natal chart, it mostly is just a point of fate or destiny. Sounds bland huh? However, in synastry it has a bigger effect. To me, it is never as important as the nodes or the moon, or venus, mars, and juno, but it definately has some significance and shouldn't be overlooked. Automatically when I saw that your vertex conjuncts his sun I thought "what a huge statement!" Indeed, vertex aspects in synastry have sort of the opposite effect as node aspects; the attraction was not instantaneous, but when you fall in love you feel an awakening amongst the two of you. I don't know much about individual vertex aspects, but I would guess that vertex conjunct his sun, mercury, and mars shows that for him (since it is his planets), his sex drive, communications, and ego are feeling a bit repressed at first, but when love is found, they are more at ease.

A vertex aspect involving personal planets like the sun and/or moon is generally seen as powerful. That's it. Not great, not bad. I like to think that since the vertex is fate, any time we see one persons vertex conjuncting another persons personal planet(s), a sense of destiny or fate is fulfilled in the characteristics of the planets involved.

As for the other aspects, sun conjunct sun in synastry shows that your basic life energies are the same. This is generally prefered for friendships rather than romance because you may take each other for granted. Too much of the same is not always so great, but still you have a great deal of magnetism and familiarity. With sun conjunct venus, this creates a very sweet pairing. This seems to allude the opposite that the sun/sun conjunction does, and so look to the venus persons chart to see if venus is a prominent planet. This shows a natural magnetic flow of attraction. You enjoy being around each others company.

With the sun conjunct mars, this is tense and creates confrontations. This is not particularly bad, but it is hard to handle. Passion is rarely of short supply, but be careful that this "passion" doens't turn into aggression. Arguments happen in every relationship, but with this aspect, expect battles of will where neither is willing to back down. Little things get blown out of proportion. Discover health outlets, work towards things, share in physical activities; all of these counter the "bad" passion.

Sun conjunct mercury is more positive. Communications and understanding are favored. You seem to get each other well and usually resolve any communication problems with ease. The mercury person stimulates the sun person to think and learn more, while the sun person helps the mercury person add creativity and passion to ideas.

Venus conjunct pluto is an intense statement in synastry. A compelling attraction exists that at times hypnotizes you both. The high road is to develop transformative passion. The low road is to become obsessive and controlling over one another. It is your choices which will happen.

Venus conjunct uranus gives even more attraction, only this one is more erractic and unusual. Often times it is unstable. The uranus person will help the venus person be more unconventional and independent, whereas the venus person is excited by the uranus persons uniqueness. This is an upredictable meeting and if you can see that as a good thing this becomes a harmonious conjunction.

The south node conjunction wouldn't be taken into much consideration. 9 degrees is too wide of an orb. I recommend 6 degree orbs at most for any aspect.

Hope this helps!

  • Regards the Vertex, I would only pay much attention to close conjunctions (2 degree orb maximum), and only regards the 'personal' planets (Sun thru Jupiter). I remember reading similar regards the orb somewhere, and I figure there might be a good basis for that in that it is a calculated point (doesn't actually 'exist').

My Mars near-exact conjuncts my beau's Vertex (and Vesta) :-P

If you find any articles about oppositions and squares to the Vertex, in synastry, I'd be very interested to hear. (email me please)

As to planets' orbs, I feel many of the ones you've listed are rather weak. Many astrologers apply a maximum orb of 3 or 4 degrees in conjunctions in synastry (other aspects even narrower).

Do remember that too many similarities is not always good, in that we have lesser opportunity to grow, learn, collaborate effectively. Also remember Uranus, and Pluto, can be quite destructive/irrational.

There's plenty of synastry aspect interpretations on the net (as well as your own intuition).

I like this book, as it's not overly rose-tinted spectacles
