It sounds very much like a Forked Headline...from which part of the Headline is the line branching outwards - the beginning or the end or middle? If you could be a bit more specific, that might help.
If the line is running alongisde the Lifeline, then it's called a 'sister' line which is beneficial in nature (i have this line myself). It supposedly bestows you with inner strength and resilience to get through the tough times in life.

Left hand=natural tendencies/inclinations/potential
Right Hand=What you do with them/probable outcome
