They're the most independent, and fastest thinkers. They're always two steps ahead, and can deal with change, and the unexpected very well.
without a doubt, its a tie between Aquarius and Gemini. but, id go for Aquarius more.
I think that aquarius would be the strongest air sign. and as far as the one that stand out the most i would say libra because they are so peace minded individuals.
gemini hands down. just look for the guy laughing his head off at nothing in the corner. ^_^

I figured you would challenge me on this, so I will elaborate. I think it takes strength of character to initiate activities. The idea must be formulated, energized, supported and put into action. A strong character must also be able to stick with an idea long enough to carry the idea to fruition and not be deterred by distractions - Aquarius. Finally, a strong character must be able to keep an open mind to consider choices, options and alternative ideas - Gemini; so, in conclusion, how can I say it depends on other.......... without you getting mad. So, I'll just stick with Libra.

let's look at the respective signs:
gemini - ruler: mercury - mutable
libra - ruler: venus - cardinal
aquarius - ruler: saturn & uranus - fixed
i usually consider the fixed signs to "represent" their respective elements, such as leo, scorpio, and taurus; their characteristics seem to best explore fire, water, earth to the greastest extent, yet for the air sign, i can't necessarily say the same for aquarius...
gemini's ruler, mercury represents intellect; mercury in a person's birth chart indicates how a person thinks intellectually. air signs are notable for their "love of intellect". so gemini is a good candidate for being the "representative".
let's now look at libra; ruler venus; it's probably the most social out of the three (from what i've observed). i think venus manifests as love for people, parties, interaction... another air trait. their symbol, which is the scale, is yet another representative of an air trait; rational thought before action. balancing act is yet another air trait, and libra is good at showing that.
aquarius is peculiar; not the strongest, but if anything, i'd say it stands out differently than the other two; for one thing, its rulers are saturn and uranus; both outer planets with co-ruler capricorn. aquarians love people yes, but there are moments where they're completely isolated from society doing whatever they need to. they'll try to spread their ideas and stay open-minded, unless what you say is something they disagree against... it simply doesn't sound completely like an air sign.

what i also found interesting about air signs, is that while gemini and libra both have something of "two" in their symbols, aquarius does not, libra is the only non-animal/human sign of the zodiac, and non of the air signs are represented by an animal, like the ram of aries or lion of leo.
i've always thought that air signs themselves stand out among the zodiac... that because they stood out so much, they had an innate need for human contact, so they'd feel more integrated. air signs rarely look like they're lonely, but they seem the most lonely if you think about it (why else would they seek human contact so badly?)...
i've rambled on without answering your questions...
as for human examples, i can't say for one thing or another, that one stands out comparatively against another. although a lot of literature i read always says "aquarius is truly the archetype of air signs", i can't agree with that 100%. if you look at air/wind in this world, unless there's a tornado or something, air in one place is relatively similar to air in another. air always flows from one place to another, and that itself maybe an indication that none of the air signs can say for sure, "I AM THE EPITOME OF AIR SIGNS". air isn't an element that stands out in nature; when people go travel, the first thing they say isn't "wow... that's some awesome air!" they're usually talking about "how clear the water is, how hot the sun is, or how beautiful the mountain/landscape is". only when they've appreciated everything else, people might say... ah, the air is clear... it's the very nature of air/wind, which makes any of the three to be strong or standing out, impossible, at least among the three air signs themselves.
One of my best friends is a Gemini, he's awesome. He has so much spirit and strength, no matter what kind of troubles life throws at him he always comes out on top. Gemini's do have some negative traits just like any other sign, but they are definitely very strong, and stand out the most. I'm water sing and I love Geminis because they are so open minded and fun

would have to agree with Janet, cardinal signs have strong wills and are independent, Libras would seem to be harmless but if their sense of justice is harmed, prepare for a good fight. yes they are initiators, they wouldnt be if they were sissies, because it doesnt matter how strong someone thinks they are if they dont act it out.

Gemini's are ok but honestly, theyre the least of the strongest in the air signs, and on the negative side theyre known to have little self esteem
I can't make my mind up.....................because they all have different strengths..........and weaknesses.
Yes Libra is cardinal......so once they make their mind up...they are noticed for their sense of fairness...but then they want to please so many people beforehand, complimenting, flattery etc..and loving getting them in return....that some look a bit superficial.
Gemini is mutable.....but what is strength of character anyway ? to not bend at all ? To stick to one's opinion at all cost ? For me Gemini stands out for their wit, ability to duck and disappear when necessary, only to come back after gathering all the ammunitions (knowledge)..
Aquarius......well..they almost always stand out because they take you by surprise, novel ways of thinking, behaving...they seem to be either liked or really disliked in general. You cannot be indifferent to them. They like to shock sometimes too.......so they always take you by surprise and you think you know them ??
Depends also whether you are talking about females or males........they can be pretty different..

an aquarious with strong character can be rebelious, original, trendy, fashion, innovative.
a gemini with strong character cuases debates, dramas, gossips, is the soul of parties, it's very intellectual, does lots of differenting things, etc.
a libra with strong character dress well, has lots of friends, is into art, moves into political movements, etc.
mmmmm sorry i cant really decide.....I have libra rising....I am weighing all the pros and cons of all the air signs.......I dont wanna say one sign is stronger than the other because my moon pisces will think the left-out signs will hurt.
