The planets travel in specific orbits through our solar system and come in contact with the Earth at specified times. The theory goes, that at each moment in time, these planets/stars will apply their influence on a person in a certain way. Over the thousands of years that astrology has been in use, these influences have been recorded and interpreted.
So, each of the planets has a specific role to play in a person's life:
The Sun is like the coach of the team.
The Moon handles the past, emotions, and intuition.
Venus handles what a person loves, is attracted to...
Mercury handles how a person communicates, writes, thinks and talks.
Mars handles how a person expresses energy.
Jupitier handles a person's growth and good luck.
Saturn handles a person's life lessons, struggles, and bad luck..
These are simplistic, but you get the idea. And, there are, of course, other planets and asteroids that people have placed meanings upon also, but these are the main one.
Each planet lives in it's "house"...it's comfortable place...and these houses are assigned in a specific order in your chart, based on the time, location, place, and date of your birth..
From a combination of the house and the locations of each of the planets, in relation to each other's locations, too, an astrologer can interpret characteristics of a person, and other such whimsy.

well with the horoscope there are 7 houses that the sun signs (zodiac signs) are in and the crap its telling u about the planets are what planets is in what house.( in some respect making a mood for sir tin ppl for a sir tin period of time) ...for example ur horoscope could say that "ur energetic today and blah blah blah, then mention that ur planet "mars per say" is in ur 8th house (which would be ur house if ur a Scorpio) that means ur probably going to be close to an Aries Ina relationship/friendship or that u might be inpatent or something to do with mars personality ..? get it.....
Well in a more understandable fashion! (LOL!) Every planet has a meaning to it. I will use Jupiter for example:Jupiter is the planet of luck. So if you are a Pisces and your horoscope says you have Jupiter in your horoscope today, then that means, you will have some luck in your day. If you want to get even more "techy"; there is something called Zodiac houses. Each house holds a Zodiac Sign; the houses begin with Aries, all the way to Pisces. Aries is the first Zodiac and Pisces is the last. So Aries is house 1. So I will have you know, the key word for House 1 is "Self"- thats what Aries represents. So if you are a Pisces, and your horoscope says you have Jupiter in the first house today, Even you can interpret that! That means you will literally have luck in your day today, and it will be directly given to you. Because the planet Jupiter (Luck), will be in the first house (self) today!. See how easy that is!.
