You do always see Cancer connected to Scorpio as the best match, but my vibe is that nothing can live up to the ideal thrown out there about this connection. Personal stories aside, because I don't mean to invalidate anybody.
From my observations, I haven't seen it work any better on a long-term basis than any other connection, although there seems to be an attraction. Personally I would look much deeper than sun signs myself.

Depends on the rest of each chart, but....Scorpio is too black and white for sensitive Cancer, no shades of gray with this guy...and Virgo may be too analytical; but earth and water can grow most anything. Look to the Sun/ Moon and Venus/Mars placements for clues.
I am a Cancer and have been with my Scorpio for over twelve years. I love the sense of security and protectiveness that Scorpios are willing to provide to Cancers. I have always felt immeadiately comfortable around him. Scorpios have the ability to draw Cancers out of their shell.
Scorpio and cancers are best because they are both emotional. Virgo's are too prim for either of them. While Scorpios admire cancers hidden strenght, cancer are fascinated by Scorpio's ability to change and care.
Scorpio. Virgo may be less tolerable of your emotions. You and Scorpio are both water signs and can become more in tune of each others emotions. If you want someone that will cater to your emotional needs and will love you deeply then go for Scorpio. Virgo's are capable of love but may not be as compassionate as Scorpio.
