Don't listen to what people say just do something that you enjoy doing. If i would have listened to my family i wouldn't be where i am today and i'm studying psychology and doing great because i absolutely love it. The thing with psychology is you need a certain level; of detachment,empathy and a lot of patience. It also carries a high degree of responsibility and professionalism whereas as a teacher it's more laid back and not as complex.Best thing for you is to talk with a counselor that can advice you on a suitable career and just talk directly to teachers/psychologists so you get a better idea of what their job entails. Most importantly choose something that's worth waking up in the morning for.
I think you will change your mind alot until you know what you really want. Teaching is not your cup of tea, and you doubt your ability as a psychologist since you dont really like kids.
Perhaps something else - or something will make you discover your desires!
Well, psychology is more than what most people think. It's not all that pretty, and it's certainly not that simple. A lot of studying goes into psychology, most of which isn't a hundred percent accurate and people are still not a hundred percent sure of it. Teaching is pretty straight forward, but you're right, you don't get respect. Not from anyone, not from any student, of any age. I think and feel like you will work hard at psychology for a good while, and you will really push and drive yourself because you just don't seem to want to listen to those others who tell you to be a teacher. But then later in life you will change you feelings and thoughts and your mind about your career choice. And you will make a great teacher. I get the feeling from you like you want to change how kids behave and treat people, and to do that you will become a most respected teacher and teach these children more than lesions taught in school.
